Looking for any information regarding Robert B. Reed.  He was the tail gunner in 42-72424, 343rd BS.  This aircraft was shot down over Bolzano, Italy, on 29 March 1944.  He was the sole survivor from that aircraft, and was a POW.  My uncle was on that aircraft as well, but was KIA.  Any info would be appreciated.  Thanks.

gardnerrose:

Many crew members were under the rank of Sgt.

If you have Michael's discgarge certificate, DD 214, It will list his MOS (military occupation speciality) if he was a gunner the MOS would be 611 OR 612. At hhe moment, I have not found his name in my archives. If you can give me the date he would have been in North Africa, perhaps I can find something.

Tipseybard:

A quick review of my archives, I find  Lt. Stoddard was navigator on Shanghai LIL , S/n 41-11767 on the Tidal Wave mission on 1 August 1943.. The air craft aborted (did not complete) the mission and crew returned. Carl Looker was the pilot and George Clark was Copilot.  It has been several years since i have heard from Carl. HOWEVER; I talked with George last month. He was in a Cheel Chair, in failing health, but seemed well.

We welcome you to join our association and attend our reunion in Savannah, GA next month.

Hope this helps

Looking for information about my grandfather, Lt. Moreau E. Stoddard, navigator with the 343rd squadron. I'm reading his WWII diary from 1943 (they've just reached the Marble Arch), and have just started researching. Also have copies of some pictures he took during sorties, but don't know if I'll be able to find out which ones.

We thouroughly enjoyed the reactivation of the 343rd at Barksdale AFB. I did get a chance for a short chat with George Clark. We discussed his pilot,  Carl Looker,  Who I had met sometime in the past.

By The Way: Amos Nicholson, artist of the Seven Dwarfs,  is celebrating his 94th birthday TODAY by skydiving.

My Father, George L Clark was a pilot with this unit and he is still with us having just celebrated his 90th birthday.
In fact we went to the 343rd activation at Barksdale AFB on July 11th.
